Lotus has unveiled its newest and most powerful supercar of all time, featuring an aluminium chassis to keep a light weight. The figures released so far are simply breathtaking.

Thanks to its lightness compared to other metals, aluminium has become an increasingly popular material for the manufacturing of cars in order to reduce its weight as well as fuel consumption. However, as this metal remains far more costly than steel, it has mainly been consumed for high-end vehicles found in the luxurious and sporty segments. In line with its constant aim to manufacture light and powerful cars for electrifying sensations, Lotus has been a regular consumer of aluminium for the chassis of its vehicles. Within a few months, the British prestigious manufacturer will push the boundaries of performance even further thanks to the launch of the 3-Eleven, which is described by the firm’s CEO as “an uncompromising manifestation of the Lotus idiom”.

This supercar has made the most out of the weight-power trade-off, offering 450 bhp for less than 900 kg thanks notably to its strengthened aluminium monocoque tub chassis. As a result, it will become the fastest car produced by Lotus, with astonishing performances allowing it to rival against the heavyweights of the category. As an illustration, the 0 to 100 km/h test is brilliantly passed under the 3 seconds mark, in the same areas as the McLaren P1 and LaFerrari, two references in the sector.

Of course, performance comes at a cost. Firstly, comfort and sophistication inside the cockpit have been kept to a minimum in order not to increase the vehicle’s weight. Secondly, the 3-Eleven will become Lotus’ most expensive car ever produced, as the lucky owners of this breathtaking supercar will need to spend between £82,000 and £115,000 for the Road or Race versions, depending on the options chosen. Nevertheless, such amount looks far from exaggerated if compared to the £1 million asked by the Italian manufacturer for its LaFerrari.
