TERRAFORM, THE NEW WAY TO REFLECT FASHION

What’s terraform? What’s the relationship with fashion? One of famous fashion designer applied this concept into fashion, isn’t it interesting? Check this out!

2

Iris van Herpen, a Dutch fashion designer inspired by ‘Total Recall’ movie that explained about terraforming on Mars made her fall collection this year. Terraforming means hypothetical process that modifies the biosphere (atmospheric, temperature, surface topography or ecology) of other planet to be similar to Earth, so it can be inhabited by human.

Through her collections, van Herpen actualized terraform concept, which are abstract and not understandable into reality. “The whole concept of terraforming started in science fiction, but it has become a reality,” said van Herpen after the show.

4

“Hacking Infinity” was what Iris van Herpen called her show, is a fall ready to wear 2015 collections for woman. Her fashion show was held in Paris on March 10th 2015 at the Palais de Tokyo. This collection used a combination between stainless steel in the warp and silk in the weft, producing fine, fluid dress silk.

3

The process to transformed stainless steel and silk into a beautiful fluid dress silk is interesting. Iris van Herpen said she created this collection only by fire and there is no painting at all. “We created a really thin metal reef from stainless steel, and we literally melt it with fire, burning it, and we decide the amount of heat. This is all hand burnt, so each color that you see is done by fire.”

5

Iris van Herpen and team used 3D Systems concept for this “Hacking Infinity” collections. This collection is a combination between traditional handwork techniques with modern day digital technology, such as 3D printing and laser cutting. She collaborated with the Canadian professor of architecture Phillip Beesley to actualize this 3D collection and Aleksandra Gaca for fabrics and materials. For the shoes, she also collaborated with Japanese shoe designer, Noritaka Tatehana to create 3D-printed translucent crystal clusters and laser-cut leather.

6

Iris van Herpen succeeds to actualize what is called Science fashion. She used stainless steel, one of the metal products as material for her collection and then combined it with silk and 3D printing method to actualize her brilliant idea of terraforming concept. She sees technology from a very different perspective and used it as a creative tool.

So, you’ve known that stainless steel can be part of fashion too, right?

Same as previous articles before, steel can be used for lots of products in different kind of fields, like steel string in music, thermal cooker for innovation, and for a beautiful dress like in this article. Shanghai Metal Corporation which is based in China is one of the leading businesses in the manufacturing of metalworking industry. We can produce and export the best quality of steel and other metal products and service. We prioritize the efficient of manufacturing and environmental sustainability.

STAINLESS STEEL IS A NEW FASHION

Who say only women can wear jewelry? Stainless steel jewelry is the answers of it! Stainless steel jewelry is suitable for women and men. It is attractive, yet masculine.

Stainless steel in French “inoxydable” is an iron alloy with a minimum of 10.5% Chromium. It is best known as the material used to make objects that requires strength and safety like aircraft, automotive bodies, building support, or dentistry instruments. This metal product was discovered in 1913 by Harry Brearley, a Sheffield metallurgist when he was doing the experiment with different types of steel for weapons. He noticed that a 13% Chromium steel had not corroded after several months.

picture2

Traditional metal such as gold, silver, and platinum are probably being the first choice for people when they buy metal jewelry, but actually stainless steel has lots of benefits when it used as jewelry. Why?

First, it is versatile. Stainless steel jewelry is versatile. People wear jewelry to make them look more attractive or they buy it because they like to appreciate the beauty of the jewelry itself. Regardless of what the reasons are stainless steel jewelry can help you to fulfill those needs.

Second, it is a good material. Unlike gold and silver, stainless steel jewelry doesn’t need to be handled very carefully, because it is durable! You don’t need to polish very often because it is resistant to corrode.

Third, it is hypoalleregenic. If you are someone who has sensitive skin, stainless steel jewelry is the best choice for you. Traditional metal jewelries like gold, silver, and platinum can elicit allergic reactions because of the impurities in the metal itself, but stainless steel is different. It is hypoalleregenic and much less likely to provoke allergic reactions.

Last but not least, it is cheaper! Of course it is cheaper than gold, silver, or even platinum! Stainless steel jewelry is a big return on investment.

picture1

Stainless steel jewelry has become more increasingly popular in recent years, especially for men’s accessories, like watches, eye wear and bracelets. This looks masculine due to its use in industrial fields. The most popular choice of stainless steel jewelry is men’s wedding bands. It looks tough and rugged. Although stainless steel jewelry identical with masculinity, but woman still can wear. There is a lot of women’s stainless steel jewelry, like ring, necklace, and earring and it looks as beautiful as other traditional jewelries.

What else can give you the beauty and masculinity of jewelry with good quality and best price, except stainless steel jewelry? So you still doubt to buy stainless steel jewelry?

Shanghai Metal Corporation can actualize the beauty and masculinity of stainless steel jewelry!

As a representative of the metal industry, Shanghai Metal Corporation is one of the leading businesses in the manufacturing of metal products in the global field. Wonderful Chain Art

Metals are everywhere around us and sometimes you don’t even notice that an object next to you is made out of steel, copper or aluminum. For example a simple metal chain doesn’t have to serve just for securing your bike against the railing. Why am I mentioning a chain? Well let’s sit comfortably and have a look.

Urban art has many interesting variations. Here, artists used their imagination and metalworking skills to create something really extra-ordinary. By using CHAINS!

via weburbanist

I am a bit curious who would wear shoes with chain higheels, it seems almost impossible to walk with that.

Everyday urban landscapes may seem shady that’s why artists accentuate the beauty of these places to make the environment nicer to people.

via weburbanist

Fashion designers also got inspired by chains and implemented it into their urban fashion style. Many of you probably don’t approve it but at least they stepped out of mainstream and created something unusual.

via weburbanist

Not only fashion but also furniture can be created with chains. These kind of chairs, sofas or tables will lighten your house and bring unique style.

This urban style is not for everyone but if you like it you could visit our website to see what metal products we offer. Shanghai Metal Corporation offers good quality and a quick service. Creative applications of coins

Many people get annoyed when their wallets are full of coins. All those clinking sounds in a pocket while you are walking… But have you ever thought of using these coins for something else than paying for chewing gums or helping homeless people?

Several artists have seen the possibility in spare change we carry around and showed that coins don’t have just financial worth.

5. Sagmeister & Walsh – Obsessions Make My Life Worse and My Life Better

New York City’s design firm Sagmeister & Walsh created this masterpiece over the eight-day period, covering are of 3,200 square feet and over 100 volunteers helped them to sort the coins by color tone and place them in space in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It was made up of 250,000 Euro one-cent pieces.

9. Stacey Lee Webber – American Flags

The piece above is created from steel, brass and one-cent coins. Stars and stripes were cut to make an accurate although not a colorful rendition of the U.S. flag. It was created by Stacey Lee Webber.

7. Ed Chapman – Nelson Mandela

This portrait of Nelson Mandela,  the former South African president, that measures 44 by 31 inches was created  out of 5,340 pennies. The British artist Ed Chapman also created mosaic works of pop-cultural icons including Albert Einstein, John Lennon and Marilyn Monroe.

Trendy look of stainless steel jewelry

Stainless steel has become an extremely popular choice for fashion jewelry for its resistance to tarnish and its bright, silvery finish. As it is strong enough for using on daily basis, you can’t go wrong with choosing stainless steel as the material for making jewelry. Steel and metals in general  play an important role in the creation of contemporary jewelry.

A short history of metals in jewelry making

i_jeweleryMetals are as old as human civilization and history of jewelry making dates back thousands years. Metals were used by ancient people – Mesopotamians, Egyptians, Greeks, Romans. The source of the word “metal” is unknown, but it is regarded that it could have come from a combination of the Greek word “metallin” and metallon (mine or metal).

Stainless steel jewelry

During last years stainless steel has found its way into fashion where it is used from necklaces to earrings. Stainless steel was invented by Harry Brearley of the Brown & Firth Research Laboratories in 1913 and developed to be impervious to staining or corrosion. Today, stainless steel is very favourite of women and men who want an industrial, street look with a touch of flash. Stainless steel may be the right choice even over precious metals.

Pros of stainless steel jewelry
  • low reactivity – environment that contains a high chlorine or salt content can accelerate tarnishing, so it is perfect for divers, swimmer or other aquatic athletes
  • resistance to tarnish
  • excellent durability

Our New Children

image

A new addition to the family is always an exciting and busy time.  From this point on the new parents will have to sacrifice their independence and freedom as they become inundated with new responsibilities and concerns.  This attention and responsibility used to be reserved for new children; however, as the developed world has seen birth rates plummet to all time lows children are slowly being replaced with pets and in particular dogs.

image

There are approximately 78 million dogs in the USA which means that there are more dogs than there are children under the age of 18.  This new found obsession with dog ownership is strongly linked to other demographic trends such longer work weeks, lower relative wages and a change in social values. Nicknamed “Generation rex” these dogs have literally replaced children for many people across the world and they have been receiving the treatment and care that would otherwise be reserved for a child.

2736044826_35cdc80c73_o

The unconditional love and affection of a dog seems like an easy choice when compared to the diaper changes and temper tantrums that many parents dread.  Not surprisingly this love is reciprocated by dog owners which has led to the birth of an industry completely dedicated to dogs.  Everything from clothing to spas our dogs deserves only the best products and services.  You would do anything for your child and the recent trend shows that we will do anything for our dogs.

image

Shanghai Metal Corporation has been following this trend and is dedicated helping our furry friends achieve the best quality of life.  Your dog will love our dog house. You’ll love it too! A great value, this dog house features a classic barn look, an asphalt shingle roof with sheet lining, and a raised floor. It is completely non-toxic and naturally weather-resistant. For outdoors or in the house this dog house will make a great place for your dogs to get the rest and relaxation they deserve.

The WaterLess Jeans

It is no news that most US garment production has moved offshore to countries such as China, India, Bangladesh to take advantage of low production costs. And along with that decision rise questions of whether or not vendors and factories involved in the manufacturing processes comply with ethical, environment and social standards that create the “true” sustainable products.

levi6

Moving offshore does not imply fewer challenges for the apparel companies, but more intricate responsibilities to ensure that “making profits” can be done without compromising the quality of life of those involved in the process, as well as the future of the environment. In order to address these social challenges, the American Denim giant, Levi Strauss, launched its Water<Less jeans collection in 2011 – designed to reduce the water used in the finishing process by an average of 28 percent and up to 96 percent – and its 100% recycled water standard, a first for the apparel industry.

levi7

If the new Water<Less jeans can really save water? Well, Levi’s announced during the World Water Day on March 22 this year that the line has saved over 770 million liters of water — enough to supply drinking water for 811,000 people for one year — since its launch. The company also planned to make extra 9 million units of the Water<Less jean, saving 71 million liters of water, according to Environmental Leader.

levi1

During the full product cycle of Levi’s single pair of typical 501 jeans more than 3,000 liters of water are used. Almost half of it (49 percent) is used to grow the cotton, while 45 percent is used when customers wash their jeans, typically about 100 times. The remaining 6 percent of the water is used during the manufacturing process of the jean, which required an average of 3 to 10 spins in cavernous washers and dryers to give it its unique appearance.

levi8

Now, the new Water<Less jeans combines the multiple wash cycles into a single wet-cycle process, followed by the ozone processing (dry or raw denim).  When the ozone decomposes, it reverts to free oxygen, not requiring washing the pair of jeans after the dyeing process. That was exactly where Levi’s could exert the most control of the usage on water and energy: the manufacturing process.

levi2

To celebrate the denim brand’s Water<Less jeans over 100 pairs of the jeans were fixed together forming a fluid whirlpool design. The art piece was inspired and designed by British architect Ian McChesney as part of the Regent Street Windows Project in London and used more than 1,000 copper rivets.

levi3

Shanghai Metal Corporation offers a wide range of copper rivets in varying sizes and forms, widely used in the manufacturing of art sculptures such as the Water<Less jeans in London. What Time is It?

Before you tell me the time, take a closer look at your watch; now tell me what you see. The answer is not really the time, but the metal your timepiece is made of-Stainless Steel. Since its discovery, stainless steel has been experimented on and used in many different ways. Although most are fairly obvious, some can still surprise us, in this case with our timepieces.
image

Timepieces have been around since the 16th century, with steel playing an important role with the assembly and inner-workings of a watch. It was not until the discovery of stainless steel in the early 1900’s that watches would take a new step into reliability and functionality. Previous to stainless steel, a watch was a very meticulous part of one’s attire, due to its prone to stain, chip, and wear and tear timepieces were but for the elite, the aristocrats and rarely for the common man. As the evolution of watches took its place in history, different types of metals began to take part in its design and usage. It was not until stainless steel was introduced that led to a dramatic change in what we wear today.

image

The introduction of stainless steel towards watches led to many more individuals having the availability to wear them, the reason why is its versatility. Stainless steel clasps, and links turned skeptical watch users into admirers and aficionados. The use of stainless steel helped those who suffered from allergic reactions to: leather, rubber and other metals, fear no more. Not only was it healthy for its user, but due to its removable clasps, more and more users would be able to wear a timepiece of their choosing. Stainless steel brought to the table an odorless, stainless, multipurpose, aesthetically pleasing factor to our now every day time piece.

image

The benefits of owning a stainless steel time piece are endless, with many even outliving the watch itself. Now the question is whether this timepiece from the 16th century that follows us everywhere we go will actually outlive the new sensation iWatch launched by Apple.

As Stainless Steel Industry Professional, Shanghai Metal Corporation takes pride in the manufacturing of those products which are used in our customer’s daily life such as stainless steel which our company manufactures and supplies at the highest quality and most affordable price. With maintenance as simple as running it through warm water and a good buffing from time to time to keep that shine-stainless steel watches are here to stay.

Who To Blame (Or Thank) For Your Braces

bracessad

The word “awkward” is practically synonymous with the word “teenager” — every adolescent undergoes a difficult physical and emotional transformation as he or she transitions from childhood to adulthood. Unfortunately, that awkward quotient screws some of us over more than others; braces never did help with that.

Braces could be a pain; you can’t eat your favorite foods, the pain when you first get them fitted. But, the light at the end of the tunnel…you get your braces off. And voila-perfect teeth! So maybe the moment’s pain was worth the lifetime pleasure?

The same qualities that made you feel like a freak when you had the braces could be what make you valuable in the real world. Alexandra Robbins, author of “The Geeks Shall Inherit The Earth,” calls this phenomenon “The Quirk Theory.

“Your ability to think outside the box might not have been appreciated by your peers during adolescence, when conformity reigns supreme. But in the adult world, that creativity makes you a valuable employee. That’s why revenge is best enjoyed at a twenty-year high school reunion.”

teethnobracesSo if you need someone to thank, Shanghai Metal Corporation manufactures the stainless steel wire for braces.  As an ISO 14001 (International Quality Management System) Company and recipient of the “Star Enterprise Award,” Shanghai Metal Corporation prides itself on exceeding international standards of quality and reliability. We guarantee the best prices, quality support, and fast delivery. To find out more, please visit our TumblrLinkedIn , Twitter , Facebook  and Instagram.
