When a dream comes true – a flying car

We have everything these days – pocket computers, smartphones, smart watches, robots. Just one thing is still missing…a flying car!

Slovakian company Aeromobil made people’s dream come true and they are much closer to introduce this car to the world than anybody else. Štefan Klein, a Slovak man graduated from the University of Technology in Slovakia, has devoted 20 years of his life for working on his prototype of Aeromobil 3.0.

Aeromobil is a flying car that can use existing infrastructure already created for planes and cars. It fits in a standard parking space, it can tank at any gas station, it is fully accustomed to road traffic and it can perfectly take off and land at any airport all over the world. Amazing!

This Aeromobil is suitable for two passengers and can fly up to 430 miles on standard 91 octane gasoline. On the road wings of this flying car fold behind the cockpit, so there is no problem with parking. In the air it can reach a top speed of 124 mph, on the road it is a bit slower and can reach a top speed of 100 mph and a driving range of 300 mph.

“We want to make personal transportation exciting, more efficient and sustainable. With ever more cars on the roads and ever more crowded airports, traveling is no longer what it used to be,” Klein stated. The latest design was tested this week and it is ready for the Pioneers Festival in Vienna in Austria, held on Oct. 29, 2014.

This Aeromobil is super stylish, comfortable and combines the performance of a sports car with qualities of an “ultralight”. Now I am just curious how much this flying car will be 🙂

Can bamboo replace the carbon fibre?

Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants in the world. Certain species of bamboo can grow 35 inches within 24 hour period and that is unbelievable. Bamboo really looks promising on many levels. It could pass several difficult problems connected to new-car production. It could withstand flame and fire resistance standards. The bamboo wood costs pennies per pound and it is perhaps the best renewable material, as it grows very quickly. What is more, the dust from a bamboo weave production decomposes over time.

Toyota’s Lexus division is one of car-makers committed to renewable materials and now it is offering 8 models of Lexus’ bamboo-rimmed steel wheel. According to engineers’ words, if you feel comfortable at the wheel, you don’t feel so tired, even after a long drive.

There is a lot of questions around using bamboo at the high temperatures common in automotive industry and fabrication. So for now carbon fiber still can’t be replaced by bamboo, but things could change soon or later.

Designed by Italian automobile designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, and engineered by Lotus Cars of England, the DMC-12 consisted of stainless steel body panels, a rear-mounted 2.85 litre V-6 PRV (Peugeot, Renault, Volvo) engine, and stylish gullwing doors, which only require 14-inches (35.5cm) of side clearance to open.

Although the business went bust before its infamy in the movie franchise, there are still 6,000 in use due to the fame. People are spending thousands of dollars to have DeLoreans outfitted to resemble the one that starred in the 1985 movie “Back to the Future.” Some replicas have been ordered for movie cameos, corporate appearances and even as the ride for a newlywed couple.
