COPPER MOLECULE STOPS SPREAD OF CANCEROUS CELLS

Silver has always been known for its antibacterial and antiseptic properties, and have been medically approved to be used in medical devices such as breathing tubes. But who would,ve thought about using Copper as a new anti-cancer Molecule. That’s exactly what a team of researchers in the university of Bielefeld in Germany has done.

Prof. Glaser team leader of this extraordinary research team has explained that copper has shown amazing results in killing cancerous cells , even performing better than the Cisplatin , a widely used drug for fighting cancer.

In his report, he explains how the new compound has the ability to stop cancer cells reproducing themselves. They have proved that the copper agents binds with the DNA of the cancerous cells and  stop them from spreading by changing their behavior. The result was that ‘the copper complex is more effective than cisplatin,’ said Pr. Glaser, ‘the highest number of cancer cells died at a concentration of 10 micromolar. With cisplatin, you need 20 micromolar.’

In addition to have shown better results in combating cancerous cells, copper molecules seem to avoid all the side effects known to the Cisplatin. This discovery may lead to a major medical breakthrough in treating cancer patients without having them to suffer the debilitating side effects known to chemotherapy.

Goldfish Gets Brain Surgery

In Melbourne, Australia, an apparently regular occurrence is taking plaice (pun intended) – a fish surgery. Dr. Tristan Rich at Lort Smith Animal Hospital operated on a goldfish named George to remove a large tumor.

To prepare for the surgery, Rich had George swim around in a bucket of water laced with anesthetic to knock him out, the hospital explained in a Facebook post. A spokesperson from Lort Smith told NBC News the surgery cost about $300 AUD and, despite how unusual it seems, it’s not the first of its kind.
