A POTENTIAL SOLUTION TO THE BODY CAR IMPASSE

More than never the car industry is under pressure to find a way to reduce the car consumption without reducing their security, power or increasing dramatically the retail price.

The new popular cars are now smaller than 10 years ago and the reason is mainly cause by the increasing of the gas price and the tendency is not going to stop in the next few years. The cars industry is now working on the engine efficiency to reduce their cars consumption and they also work on the weight reducing. The engine efficiency is basically the same for every car dealer with some minor details on powertrain systems and no majors advances are expended in a near future. However, the frame and body is now the next target of the car industry is looking to improve their next car generation.

One of the future main advances in the car industry is the integration of the carbon on the car body with a low cost price. In fact racing cars and some of the new luxury car already have carbon fiber on their bodies and part, but the price just blow up and it’s a deadlock for medium and low budget cars. There are some studies for producing car body with carbon steel and this can be the solution to reduce the car weight and keep the price in a good range.

What?! Car Flying Over London?

You probably have seen Smart Cars jumping over a bridge every single day in Rotterdam but I bet you haven’t seen the 2015 Jaguar XE flying over central London in the beginning of this month.

In collaboration with the British Royal Air Force Red Arrows Acrobatic Team the car was air-lifted by helicopter in Solihull, where Jaguar’s manufacturers is located and carried along the Thames to Tower Bridge. The car continued its trip on a boat to later on hit the Earls Court, the home of 14 Jaguar debuts since 1935, where it was escorted by two 1960’s Mark II Jaguar Police Cars and welcomed by the 3,000 excited VIP guests.

The show was narrated by English actor, John Hannah and included a star-studded performance lineup including Emeli Sande, The Kaiser Chiefs, Eliza Doolittle, the Royal Ballet, members of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Max Milner from The Voice.

Michelin a lancé un prototype de roue à la fin de 2010, avec un design simple et brillant.

Le concept est de réduire la quantité de caoutchouc sur l’ensemble du pneu et mettre des lames métalliques flexibles pour réduire les vibrations et les chocs pour le conducteur, cela remplace le rôle de la chambre à air des pneus conventionnels.

Ce concept permet de réduire considérablement le besoin en pétrole et de réduire la pollution relié à la fabrication de pneu. En outre, la forte proportion de composite en acier assure que ce type de roue est facilement recyclable et réparable, parce que l’acier simple et l’acier carbonique peuvent être recyclés indéfiniment sans affecter la qualité du produit à long terme. Cependant, il y a fort à parier qu’il faudra des métaux de bonne qualité pour une utilisation soutenu et pour les véhicules lourds.

Comme vous pouvez le voir, ce prototype est parfait pour tous les types de véhicules et surtout pour ceux qui ne sont pas équipé de suspension. Malheureusement, l’industrie du pneu n’est pas prête à faire ce changement pour l’instant, car la conception à grande échelle de ce modèle suppose qu’il doit changer plusieurs usines et revoir totalement la chaine de montage.

Ce changement semble actuellement trop cher pour Michelin. Néanmoins, il nous permet de voir ce que le prochain modèle va ressembler lorsqu’il sera le temps pour Michelin de créer la prochaine génération d’usine à pneu et roues.

A Smart Car Jumps Over a Bridge Every Day!

They have filmed some really astonishing car jump stunts in Hollywood. In real life, the jumps such as James Bond: The Man With the Golden Gun, Thelma and Louise and Terminator 2, would result in absolutely catastrophic damage. Still, there is a car that jumps over a bridge every single day.

In Rotterdam, you can see a Smart Car jumping over an elevated bridge from miles away. The thing that you will see is actually a billboard advertisement made by an advertising agency BBDO Düsseldorf to promote the sales of the Smart BRABUS car. The billboard is attached to the cutting point of the bridge, and when the bridge opens, it seems like the Smart car is jumping over the bridge.

The BRABUS campaign lead to a phenomenal success of more than 2000 cars sold before its launch. Smart car is famous also for its other creative marketing campaigns. The small size of the car has inspired its marketers to design, say, unique small size parking spaces for only smart cars a way to promote the car’s fuel efficiency (see the picture below). The Rotterdam Bridge campaign is really groundbreaking in automobile industry.

Revising The Facts – Car Fatalities Are Actually Falling

There are 30,000 car deaths per year in the USA –which when reported sounds like an increase. In fact, as a proportion of the total population, car accident fatalities decrease year by year. It is under-reported that there are ten times as many injuries, and the ratio between fatalities and injuries has been widening since 1918 when records began.

Why? Because of safety features like the addition of steel in vehicles. No one wishes to diminish the exponential effects of safety features like airbags, but steel is an underrated addition to car safety. Not coincidentally the first steel made automobile was in 1918, where a steel beam was placed inside the car door to protect passengers from side-on collisions. Steel door latches help keep your car closed during a crash.

And of course the seatbelt is made from steel. Freakonomics wrote a paper of how major the effect of the seatbelt has been on safety- yet it would be impossible to measure. An in fairness, who would volunteer?

Steel has made financial sense as well. The bottom line is that to save a life with a seat belt costs $30,000; to save a life with an air bag costs $1.8 mm by our estimates. This makes seat belts an incredibly effective safety innovation. So in the insurer’s eyes, steel is a money saver as well as life saver.
