This holiday bungalow also has an outdoor deck with a swimming pool and a BBQ dining area. The outdoor facility has also a private Japanese garden and a hammock for relaxation.

Even though its space is very limited, the room feels really spacious. Its spiral staircase saves a lot of space. Also its shelves and sofa can can be closed and opened with a push of a button for extra space.

This container complex was prefabricated off-site and plunked with the least amount of energy, waste and cost. Thanks to shipping containers, this facility can be easily expanded and transferred to a different location. Its solar panels enable energy efficient and low-cost electricity usage. Floor-to-ceiling windows illuminate the room with natural light. Rainwater is harvested by gutters and reused for outdoor plants.

The Fly House designer company Espai Fly would like to see their container housing business expanding from hotels to also cafes, retail outlets and even private homes.

Shipping containers seem to be the superior material for creating affordable real-estate that is both luxurious and affordable. For instance this private bungalow costs only about 110 US dollars a day. You can check the current prices and book from here.

While container architecture is going mainstream, Shanghai Metal Corporation continues in fulfilling shipping container orders from around the globe.

VDSL2, G.fast, and XG.fast compared

Mala priemer jeden meter a vážila neuveriteľných 400kg.

“Mal som toľko veľa drôtov,” he said.

mark
Mark Zuckerberg

Tieto lietadlá by boli veľkosťou ako komerčné lietadlo a mali by vyletieť ponad vzdušný priestor, kde nelieta žiadne lietadlo, do výšky 60 000 až 90 000 stôp (jednotka dĺžky, spravidla okolo 0,3 m).

Facebook may provide the worldwide internet!

When we get lost, we check maps on our smartphone. When we want to know about the place while traveling, we check it on the internet. When we take photos, we want to share it. Where? Most likely on Facebook. And Facebook is the one who plans to extend the internet to communities worldwide.

mark
Mark Zuckerberg

Only a third of the globe can currently access the web and Facebook sees an opportunity here. Facebook with its CEO Mark Zuckerberg is now developing solar power drones which can fly 12 miles high and are capable of boosting worldwide internet access. The social network’s founder is hoping that his project Internet.org will provide internet access to the other two-thirds.

The company has been discussing using drones, or planes as they prefer to call them. They want them to circle constantly in the sky. Planes would be about the size of a commercial aircraft. Those planes have to fly above all airspace, that is between 60,000 and 90, 000 feet where no plane flies. The planes also have  to be solar powered so they can fly continuously without refueling.

facebook-internet-drone-537x386

There are some regulatory issues and problems connected to this project. There is normally one person to manage a single drone. “We can’t have one person per plane if we want to figure out how to connect the world.” says Yael Maguire, an engineering director at Facebook’s Connectivity Lab. The second issue is that the airspace above 60,000 feet is not currently regulated at all. The team aims to send at least one drone for a test flight, hopefully in 2015 in U.S. airspace.

Better Education Obtained in Container Schools

Today shipping containers are used to build apartments, hotels, stores and saunas to name but a few. But why does it make sense to build schools out of containers?

lioners

The first reason is that especially old wooden school buildings are likely to have mold issues that may cause severe health risks. For example an article of a Finnish science magazine Tiede states that every second school in Finland has mold issues (source). Students are therefore either forced to stay in their mold school or move to another school. Container schools could be installed in relatively short time and with relatively low costs.

kids_school

The second reason can be studied from Samsung. In 2012, the South Korean electronics chaebol established a shipping container school in the South African village of Phomolong as a part of its corporate-social responsibility program. The school offers its 21 students premium education facilities with solar powered electricity system and notebooks, an Internet connection and Samsung Galaxy tablets. (source)

In Orange County California, creative architects had an over three months projects of expanding the Waldorf School in Costa Mesa by using shipping containers. It took 99 days to build four buildings out of 32 shipping containers. The eco-friendly construction project cost two million US dollars which was estimated of being 10-20 percent cheaper than an “old-school” building project. Also it would have most likely taken more time than 99 days to finish by using other material than shipping containers.

There are many types of internationally standardized shipping containers. Some have an open top and some can be opened from the sides. Thereby it gives designers limitless opportunities to develop mobile education facilities. In order to solve mold related problems or take education to less developed areas, governments, nonprofit organizations and companies’ CSR managers should look for containerized education solutions.

Top 10 Countries For Internet Speed

If you thought it was South Korea , you were mistaken. South Korea’s speed is down 13% last year and has been surpassed by Hong Kong. Hong Kong benefits from its top rate infrastructure and money from the world over. Internet speeds averaged 9.3 Mbps last year, up 5.4% from a year ago. This compares to average mainland China internet speeds of just 1.7 Mbps.

worldinternetspeeds

Next on the list as you can see are the usual suspects, Singapore and Northern European countries though Macau has made the cut this year with 40 mbps according to netindex.

These innovations in internet speeds can largely be accredited to the commercialization of fibre optics. About 20 years ago, companies which provide telecommunications services, particularly Internet providers, realized the immense potential of fiber optic cables. These foresighted companies began installing fiber optic cables everywhere, and for a long time the cost of these services was too high for the average consumer. However, as these companies recoup their massive installation costs as more customers sign up for service, the costs are now affordable even for small businesses and home users. Here’s how fiber optics are changing the Web, and indeed, the world.

fibreoptics

The differences in fiber optic Internet services, as opposed to the older copper wire technology used by dial-up Internet services, are significant. First, users never have to worry about a poor quality connection causing loss of service. Second, fiber optics eliminate the lengthy wait times for Web pages to load, messages to be transmitted, or images to upload. Fiber optics are ideal for an interconnected world such as ours, because it allows for real-time experiences on social media sites, such as Facebook, YouTube, Limewire, Skype, and other sites heavy on audio and video.

stainlessteelstrip

It also has practical and useful business applications. Shanghai Metal manufactures the stainless steel strip used for optical fiber cable protection tubes.
