What if almost everything in your apartment was made out of metals? If warm wooden kitchen cabinets, floors, furniture and other furnishings were cold grey wouldn’t you feel like in a prison? Peter Kostelov, a designer who created a metal home in Moscow, Russia, uses industrial materials for almost everything. The apartment has steel walls, doors, windows, floors, furniture, even sofa is made mostly out of steel. He divided the wide-open space into a series of individual rooms. Materials that are natural part of a construction process became the core element for style and decor in this project. This concept seems a bit extreme but perfect for industrial lovers.

If this metal interior is too much for you, you can still apply incorporate in some decorations to make your home luxurious as the one in Shanghai, China – Xintiandi Penthouse. Hong Kong architect Joyce Wang “celebrated metal” in this three-story apartment. She got inspiration in three concrete metals, sheet metal, weathered metal and metal cabling.

The curved staircase up to the roof of the penthouse is created out of bent sheet metal and living room’s walls are lined with corten steel.

Metal cabling was woven between the balustrade and the baseline of the apartment’s central staircase and it created screened-off dining area.

What is very interesting, the bedrooms in the apartment don’t have any windows. Instead, windows line a shared corridor which leads to the bedrooms. Read more here.

Folks enjoying extremely risky climbing

Do you like climbing? Do you have a crazy smile on your face when you are somewhere high? Then you will love two young Russian folks Vadim Makhorov and Vitaliy Raskalov, who were probably so bored that they started climbing the most towering structures in the world.

All this idea of climbing came with a passion about taking pictures. Few years ago they took a picture with their phone camera, they liked it and decided to buy a real camera. But why they just don’t take pictures of flowers and nature with feet on the ground? Too boring.

They like challenges and that’s why they picked Shanghai Tower in China, 650 meters high tower, still under-reconstruction. Shanghai Tower is the second-tallest tower in the world surpassed only by Burj Khalifa in Dubai. (source)

“Aware of the strict Chinese law, we prepared carefully and picked an appropriate date, the Chinese New Year day,” Rascalov said. According to his words, security was less watchful, cranes didn’t work and people were on vacations.

They got to the crane at around midnight, first it took them 2 hours to get on the 120th floor by foot and then they were waiting 18 hours for better weather on the top of the building. I am surprised they didn’t change their mind…

Of course authorities don’t share the excitement with them and they often running into problems with law. They were arrested when they climbed pyramids in Giza or while ascending to the top of St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague.

Tak zmiešali vodku so zázvorovým pivom a z tohto koktejlu sa stal hit počas obdobia Studenej vojny. Bol výnimočne osviežujúci a ľudia si svoj pohár koktejlu užívali dlhšie vďaka skvelým vlastnostiam medi.

The Naked Beer That Will Make Your Mouth Water

Surely a package design tells us more than we could imagine. As the Chinese saying goes “You eat first with your eyes, then your nose, then your mouth”. In the beverage label design this is not different. Wine bottle is usually what gets more attention when it comes to label design, leaving popular small run craft beers behind.

But with US craft breweries embracing aluminum cans the fate of beer cans have changed dramatically. Aluminum is the perfect raw material since it provides a cheap, impact-resistant, recyclable packaging. Protection against light which could spoil the very carefully selected aroma of the beer can be minimized by using aluminum cans. Beverage poisoning when in contact with aluminum is also avoided by a water-based polymer coating process.

As a result of the trend for home breweries and craft beers we have sees an explosion of inventive, creative and original label designs. Following the wave of beer can designs, Russia-based designer Timur Salikhov takes the beer packaging to the next level by introducing the Naked Premium Beer. The idea behind the Naked Premium Beer is to show the beer on the inside of a can. He puts “sweat marks” on the cans, meant to instantly quench thirst in the viewer.

The Naked Premium Beer is only one out of many examples of clever merchandising strategy. The Naked Premium Beer canister is not a de facto transparent can that has nothing to hide and everything to boast with its appealing cold, delicious and perfect foamy beer. The artist uses printing and visual effect to give a convincing picture of what is inside the Naked Premium Beer. “There are many beer cans with different design. And there is only one that shows what really is inside. Why hide what good beer looks like?”, says Salikhov. So when one looks carefully at the beer can he/she will then realize they have been tricked. But too late unfortunately, after having your mouth water already.

Ginger Mummy Mystery

Why were copper-masked mummies buried in shallow graves in the wastes of Siberia, just shy of the Arctic Circle? Why were they laid to rest alongside 11th-century bronze bowls from Persia, about 3,700 miles (6,000 kilometers) to the southwest? And why were their skulls smashed in?

Russian archaeologists are trying to discover the origins of a group of 800-year-old bodies found just 29 km from the Arctic Circle, which were accidentally mummified by copper when they were buried. The mummies were discovered at Zeleniy Yar in Siberia, in 34 shallow graves, and 11 of the bodies found in the medieval burial place had either smashed skeletons or missing and shattered skulls. They may have been damaged by their peers deliberately to prevent spells emanating from them. There is only one female, a child, who is buried with her face masked by copper plates, and three male infant mummies, who wear copper masks and were bound in four or five copper hoops that each measure several centimetres wide.

Galactic Prefab Offers Vacations in Space

Space tourism is an extreme form of travelling that has been experienced by only a few people. Due to the high prices of such service providers as Richard Branson‘s Virgin Galactic, only the wealthiest can spend a vacation in space. A Russian space pod design company Orbital Technologies is trying to take space tourism more mainstream.

An article on Wikipedia has gathered a list of all of the world’s eight space tourists. The lists also showed that in order to get to space, those people spent US 20 to 40 million. Orbital Technologies’ service is much more cheaper.

A Soyuz rocket will take you to a two day voyage in space with about $US 826,000. Five nights weight in $US 165,000. With that price passengers can stay in a comfortable solar-powered Commercial Space Station (CSS) orbiting the Earth within a 217 mile radius. The passengers can view the cosmos through portholes.

The price includes luxury gourmet meals that are prepared on Earth. Unfortunately alcohol is not allowed in the space flight. The passengers can use an air-flush toilet and take shower in a fully sealed water cubicle. They sleep vertically or horizontally in zippered sleeping bags that prevent them flying around in zero gravity.

The galactic prefab is also used as pod for scientific research during off-seasons. It is also used as an emergency stations for space crafts that get into trouble in space.

One interesting fact about space tourism is that it slows down aging but just a little bit. According to a theory of time dilation, say, a six month trip to space slows down aging by 0.007 seconds. Thereby arithmetically speaking, a five day voyage in a space hub would slow down aging by 0.002 seconds.

Space pod is a futuristic application of prefabricated building.
