Places to Fall High and Stay Alive

“Most important thing in life is learning how to fall.”
Jeannette Walls, Half Broke Horses

The concepts of falling from high places and staying alive together form a fascinating combination. Danger and the sensation of flying cause adrenaline spikes that  are unimaginable and can be described by only those who have the experience. Here are some stories and places where to get that experience.

The biggest jump of history was done by Felix Baumgartner who jumped from a balloon 128,000 above ground. The highest ever free fall took him 10 minutes to descend. and only the last few thousand  feet were negotiated by parachute. Baumgartner also became the first skydiver to go faster than the speed of sound.

Baumgartner has also base jumped into 673-foot Mamet Cave in Croatia’s Velebit National Park. He successfully free fell and parachuted into the dark interior for a safe landing on the rugged cave floor. The jump, lasting only seconds, required perfect timing to survive. (source)

The world’s highest bungee jump can be done in China’s Macau. A jump from the 764 feet tall A.J. Hacket Tower takes you four to five seconds to land. During that time jumpers need to tolerate the speed of  124 mph. The great thing is that one can do it at night admire beautiful scenery and lights coming from the city’s casinos.

For beginners one good place for trying small-scale freefalls  could be the world’s tallest shipping container building in Zurich. The Swiss bag company Freitag has store made out of 17 shipping containers that elevate the building to 85 feet.

Shipping containers are modular and theoretically can be piled as high as possible. Piling is enabled by their strong foundations in all of the corners. Theoretically speaking there is not any limit of how tall container buildings can be. The only thing stopping seems to be the limitation related to forklifts and cranes.

Shanghai Metal Corporation offers high-quality forklifts and a large variety of shipping containers. Our containers can be used in shipping goods or in construction projects. For more information please visit our website. Please also follow us on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram.

Buildings Inspired by Star Wars

As the release date of the new Star Wars episode VII movie comes closer and closer, even the true fans do not have to travel galaxies far far away to witness some beautiful pieces of architecture that have been inspired by the Star Wars saga.

The first destination where the Millenium Falcon takes us is the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, where a company named Heerim Architects are designing a hotel that seems to be straight from the Star Wars world. The 150-meter high and 35-story Full Moon hotel that is shaped as the Death Star will be able to accommodate guests to 382 large rooms.

The next building imitating Star Wars is in South Korea where Moon Hoon Architects company has implemented the “Star Wars house” whose overall aesthetics and façade articulation references the Star Wars series.  According to an article on Designboom, the overall interior and exterior design of the house with inclined walls serves well the Korean trend of young families moving to detached homes. The surroundings of the house also offer an open play area for children and also responds to residents’ childhood dreams of becoming astronauts or Jedis.

The building is actually a prefabricated restaurant designed by a Swiss architecture firm Tilla Theus. Now Even Babies Can Have Their Own “Espresso” Machine

I remember the first time I came across this shiny espresso machine that could freshly brew my own espresso at my very own home at any time of my day. It was fabulous and more importantly, effortless! Now even babies can have their own “espresso” machine the same way you brew your cup of morning joy out of your Nespresso (aided by George Cloney).

Nestlé introduced its premium BabyNes system, which prepare and deliver a hygienic, safe, easy and quick bottle for babies. The single-serve baby milk formula portions are sealed in capsules integrated with a microbiological filter that eliminates bacteria from the water. The bottle preparation takes place within the closed capsule which means it doesn’t have any contact with the machine or the user before going into the bottle.

baby5

The world’s first comprehensive state-of-the-art nutrition system for infants and toddlers, BabyNes, uses a patented technology to prepare the bottle with precisely the right dosage and temperature, at the push of a button, in less than one minute. The new baby formula system is an attempt to catch on the hotly competitive infant formula market. At the top ranking China appears as the biggest and fastest-growing formula market in the world with sales are rising more than 20 percent annually, compared with less than 4 percent in the U.S.

baby3

Nestlé’s infant formula, Good Start, accounts for 10% of the US market, ranked as top three brands, together with Mead Johnson Nutrition Co’s Enfamil (40% of the market), and Abbott Laboratories’ Similac (40%). The industry is rapidly consolidating and manufacturers are expanding their share of developing world markets as seen by Nestlé’s recent acquisition of Pfizer’s infant-nutrition business.

Japan's Meiji to pull out of China's baby formula market

The high-tech BabyNes machine can be purchased for $287 and works with a range of six single-serving formula pods (purchased separately in packs of 26 for $56-$64), tailored for infants and young children up to the age of three years. Taking into consideration the baby’s evolving nutritional needs Nestlé customized four formulas to infants in their first year, and one formula for each of the following two years. The baby formula also is a perfect combination to when solid food is introduced to the infant’s diet.

Battling against organizations such as Baby Milk Action who raises campaigns against breastmilk substitutes, Nestlé said it supported WHO recommendations on breastfeeding for the six-month period and “continued breastfeeding thereafter for as long as possible”, according to The Guardian.

Shanghai Metal Corporation is specialized in producing aluminum foil that can be heat sealed to aluminum or aluminum-plastic mix containers, widely used in manufacturing infant milk formula pods. Aluminum foil has an excellent tight performance and a super dam-proof function, whilst non-poisonous, odorless and 100% recyclable.  To find out more, please visit our Website, WordPress, LinkedIn , Twitter , Facebook  and Instagram. Top 10 Countries For Internet Speed

If you thought it was South Korea , you were mistaken. South Korea’s speed is down 13% last year and has been surpassed by Hong Kong. Hong Kong benefits from its top rate infrastructure and money from the world over. Internet speeds averaged 9.3 Mbps last year, up 5.4% from a year ago. This compares to average mainland China internet speeds of just 1.7 Mbps.

worldinternetspeeds

Next on the list as you can see are the usual suspects, Singapore and Northern European countries though Macau has made the cut this year with 40 mbps according to netindex.

These innovations in internet speeds can largely be accredited to the commercialization of fibre optics. About 20 years ago, companies which provide telecommunications services, particularly Internet providers, realized the immense potential of fiber optic cables. These foresighted companies began installing fiber optic cables everywhere, and for a long time the cost of these services was too high for the average consumer. However, as these companies recoup their massive installation costs as more customers sign up for service, the costs are now affordable even for small businesses and home users. Here’s how fiber optics are changing the Web, and indeed, the world.

fibreoptics

The differences in fiber optic Internet services, as opposed to the older copper wire technology used by dial-up Internet services, are significant. First, users never have to worry about a poor quality connection causing loss of service. Second, fiber optics eliminate the lengthy wait times for Web pages to load, messages to be transmitted, or images to upload. Fiber optics are ideal for an interconnected world such as ours, because it allows for real-time experiences on social media sites, such as Facebook, YouTube, Limewire, Skype, and other sites heavy on audio and video.

stainlessteelstrip

It also has practical and useful business applications. Shanghai Metal manufactures the stainless steel strip used for optical fiber cable protection tubes.
